WALKATHON 2018 – The digital vision and INCLUSION!
The 14th walkathon is initiated to raise awareness on Digital Inclusion. With the theme, ‘From a resolution to a revolution’ the 14th walkathon will be organized on 8th December 2018 at Bengaluru. The world runs on technology with latest discoveries each day making our life much easier and hassle free. While the percentage of technology users is rising each year, only 16% of the rural India have been introduced to the term ‘internet.’ Expanding the reach of digital technology further and widening the perimeter to involve people with disabilities is the prime objective of Walkathon 2018.
Technology never discriminates and Samarthanam is an ardent believer of the phrase. The organization’s activities and programmes are drafted and implemented on the foundation of latest technology which involves people with disabilities being able to learn and use most of the applications with ease. With walkathon 2018, Samarthanam wishes to take the significance of digitization and its inclusion to every door and involve people from every walk of life to be a part of the changing scenario.
Being able to access and use information and communication technologies by every member of the society irrespective of their ability and the social / economical division or community that they belong is defined as ‘DIGITAL INCLUSION’.
At Samarthanam, we believe that growth is important and technology paves the way for it. Recognizing and relating to the need for a digital revolution, on par with the Digital India which is being run by the Indian Government, Samarthanam is doing its bit to reach out to all the categories of people, helping them be a part of the digital world. Some of Samarthanam programmes and initiatives has technology embedded in them making the use of technology easy for people with disabilities. Samarthanam team is also developing an application for the disabled which will work simultaneously as a directory of the disabled and a repository on information of government schemes.
On the same road, Walkathon 2018 is being organized by Samarthanam to raise awareness on the significance of digital inclusion including people with disabilities. This walkathon we will walk for digital inclusion where every step will be a digital imprint in the lives of those who were left untouched by the digital revolution in India. We will walk for accessibility of digital technology to the neediest, serving as an instrument of empowerment as they get access to technology and information.
