Digital inclusion is a fairly new concept which focuses on digital literacy and access to Information and communication technologies (ICT). It is defined as the ability of individuals and groups to access and use information technology to the best of their abilities. Digital Inclusion can be seen as the readiness of any given community to embrace fully the digital age. This readiness not only gives a socio economic benefit but also enriches the life of the individuals involved. In simple words it can be understood as empowering the individuals through provision of Information and communication technologies (ICT).

Digital Inclusion has three components.
1- Accessibility
2- Adoption and
3- Application.

Accessibility: This refers to the availability and affordability of digital technology in the public sphere and household. This can be done through government agencies and institutions like schools colleges and libraries and private players in the domain.

Adoption: This component includes digital literacy and safety of end users of internet.

Application: includes the integration of digital technology in solving essential social issues and improving the quality of life. This means incorporating the digital technology in providing essential services like health, education, employment, commerce and governance.
The universality of internet has provided opportunities and challenges to communities alike. It has created a class of privileged ones and domains of exclusion leaving a certain section of population isolated from the digital revolution. Digital inclusion addresses this handicap and includes everyone in the digital folds.

Samarthanam categorically recognizing the need to extend the reach of digital revolution into the lives of the disabled and the underprivileged has chosen ‘Digital Inclusion’ as a theme and -goal and motto for the coming year 2019.
